Baritones are the instruments that I get asked for most so I am pleased to list this for a friend of mine who wishes to sell it.
At first glance you see the words "Early Wheatstone" and you note the bone buttons. It may look like a cheap instrument but it doesn't play like one!
I don't know all the details about it and can only tell you what I was told. It was found in poor condition and is probably made before-or around 1860.
I was told that it had a crack across either the reedpan or the action board-I can't remember which- but Steve Dickinson had a hand in fixing it-so you can be assured that it was done well. Also I have been told that the instrument has had the early chambering improved to the the higher standards of the best period.
The point is that it plays really well and sounds great. I actually managed to play some Rapper jigs on it and I can't remember the last time that worked on a baritone that wasn't top class. It is in concert obviously with all the usual replacement of pads etc.
I have a feeling that this won't be around for a long time so get in touch quickly
