How many of these will you find?
This one is from my own collection and I have had it for many years but I am gradually reducing it down to tiny numbers as the instruments ought to be out there and playing.
Tenor-treble Aeolas are rare because they were top quality models-very expensive-and therefore not made as often as more utilitarian instruments.
Amboyna tenor-trebles are many times rarer-I think I have had about 5 in 43 years.
Amboyna is the most beautiful wood used only on presentation models as it was rare and expensive. It almost always comes with gold plating on the metal parts -and brown bellows-as can be seen on this one.
It is number 28933 which is 1921.
It has been restored with new pads, valves, straps, bushings and it was given a new hard case.
It did have a crack in the wood on each end but those has been professionally restored and stabilised
It is in lovely condition, plays well and has that more mellow sound that the wooden ended Aeolas have.
You won't see another one unless you are very, very lucky!
