|Type : English|
Make : Louis Lachenal
Model : 48 Key Treble
Price : £1250
An early English treble with a Louis Lachenal label which makes it pre- 1860. It is No 8233 which makes it even earlier.
It has rosewood ends, metal buttons, steel reeds-which are very unusual at this period-and a 5 fold set of green bellows.
It has been restored with new pads, valves, straps and tuned to concert pitch. It comes in its original case.
For an instrument of this age it is in decent condition with unbroken fretwork, quality reeds and bellows which are airtight although there are a few small corner patches on the bottom folds.
Whether the steel reeds are original or not I can't say-but they are definitely a factory set and could have been put in later in the 19th Century. They play very well and have that amazingly mellow sound which is nothing to do with the reeds but more the construction of the early concertinas-and also the fact that the instrument has its original leather baffles.
If you want one for singing with -or playing in the house-this is perfect.
