|Type : Duet|
Make : Wheatstone
Model : 57 Key Maccann
Price : £2600
A lovely -and rare -57 key Wheatstone Aeola Maccann no 29950.
It has metal ends and buttons, steel reeds and 6 fold bellows.
It has been restored with new pads, valves , straps and tuned to concert pitch.
It comes in a fabulous leather case which has a Colin Dipper label and was made by John and Sue Holman-this rather dates its original restoration to the 1980's but the pads and most of the valves have been renewed again recently.
The case alone would cost at least £300 nowadays and probably a lot more.
It plays very well with all the quality you would expect of a top period Aeola
The special thing about this one is that it is 57 key-which means that the lowest note on the right is a C-which it isn't on the 55 keys or other smaller ones. I was always told that a serious player of Maccann must have an instrument that goes down to at least C. Of course a lot of the bigger ones do-and even lower for the biggest models -but 57 is the ideal size for most folk players as it is the smallest in size and weight that does have that crucial feature.
I have 61,s , 67.s and 72's in stock at present but they are all quite a bit larger. 57 's are hard to get and sought after.
