This concertina has been soldType : Duet
Make : Wheatstone
Model : 46 Key Maccann
Price : £850
This came in yesterday in a part exchange deal.
It is a Wheatstone 46 key Maccann No 27821 which would be from the 1920's.
I sold this concertina-probably about 10 years ago and it is not as pretty as I would like -but it does play well.
It has rosewood ends, metal buttons . steel reeds and 6 fold bellows
It has been fitted in the past with new pads, valves, straps and tuned to concert pitch-it has also had a bellows rebind.
The woodwork is all solid but is slightly marked with wear marks and some deterioration of the surface -which ~I have cleaned numerous times tonight but can't seem to get back to its original finish.
This instrument has high quality Wheatstone reeds and it would be a fair bit more expensive if it was immaculate.
We have very few duets in stock at present-basically because we sold so many in the last three months -but some more are in the pipeline or in restoration so let us know if you want something particular.
I also ought to mention that any concertina made with rosewood cannot be sold outside the EU- and maybe not outside Britain if Brexit happens-without a Cites permit. All of my concertinas with rosewood will get a permit because they are easily proved to be pre-Cites-but they still need a permit-which will cost a potential overseas buyer £59 extra for the document which can also take a month to be processed-although the last on came through in about 10 days!
