A Lachenal English concertina No 5478? which would be around the beginning of the First World War.
It has metal ends, metal buttons, steel reeds and a new set of 6 fold bellows-it originally had five fold as almost all of the middle range Lachenals did.
It has been restored with new pads, valves, straps, bushings, bellows and tuned to concert pitch.
Plays well but probably is more mellow than you would expect from a metal end.
The trouble is that everybody tends to talk in generalisations about concertinas but if you have seen enough you realise that while there is some truth in the old adages-it is only true in 70% of cases. This could well be wooden ended in its sound but of course metal ends do have one big advantage in that they are not easily damaged.
Just one of a huge range of English concertinas from the budget ones to the ones you see once in a lifetime!
