|Type : English|
Make : Wheatstone
Model : Raised Ended 56 Key
Price : £2000
A very nice Wheatstone 56 Key extended treble concertina-extended up-not down.
It is number 22287 which would be late 1890's.
It is the raised ended model which -at that time-was the top model-only later superceded by the Aeola
This one has raised ebonised ends, metal buttons, steel reeds and a later set of 6 fold bellows.
It comes in an old leather non-original case but could be supplied with a modern hard case.
It has been restored with new pads, valves, straps and tuned to concert pitch. The only negative is that-before we got it-someone had damaged four of the top reeds-which are almost impossible to replace. Having said this-none of the main 48 keys are damaged and all play well with quick action and great sound-it is after all a Wheatstone of quality. Most folk player don't even use the normal 48 -which are all fine-and 99.9% of people never touch those top notes at all as only dogs can hear them!
That is the reason for a £500 discount on the instrument-it would normally be £2500.
It isn't as perfect as the day on which it was made but it is perfect enough on the usual 48 keys of the treble.-and it has 6 fold bellows -which the original model would not have had.
